Our rich history.
The mural inside our café is a cherished part of our history, depicting the building's evolution from its origins to its current identity, The Bean Pedlar. The artwork captures the legacy of the Mattern family, who established Mattern’s hardware on the site in 1887, spanning four generations until new owner Robert Drakeford's family took over in 2019. The mural, featuring Victor Hugo Mattern and even the family dog Dougal, alongside coffee fields and beans, pays homage to the building's past while embracing its vibrant present.
